Happy Sunday, everyone. The production of The Wizard of Oz that I’m in is performing its last of five shows today.

I’m in the ensemble, so I have a few different roles. The biggest one is probably the part of the Winkie general, who has ~five lines, but I really sell them.

Drama Queen and her husband were getting shack-wacky, so they came over with the baby for the afternoon. Everyone got plenty of time with the baby, including Thor, who has long been an object of awe among his contemporaries because - with seven younger siblings - he knows what to do when someone hands him a baby.

The DQ family went home after dinner, but Thor stayed to play Wingspan (Vlad won, Thor was second), but he was going to stop by Chez DQ to help his brother-in-law restrain Crunky, the black cat, while DQ cut her claws. They offered a cocktail - son-in-law has worked as a bartender - and cheesecake as an incentive.

I used to love giving my cat a bath, except for the hair sticking to my tongue.

We would take cats to the vet for a wash, if necessary, and the vet would give them a sedative.

I really like Noah Smith. I'm biased because he has superior data, excellent analyis, liberal but not progressive views.

This is his sobering perspective on Liberalism.

Sadly paywalled.

'Which leaves us, the people who still believe in liberalism, as the rebellion. If you believe in the primacy of individual human freedom and dignity, you are now fighting a desperate underground guerilla struggle to carve out any kind of a liberal space in a world that only 25 years ago upheld your values as paramount. History has returned — indeed, it never ended — and there is no destiny or fate guaranteeing that you will end up on the favored side of it. "

Thanks Lucy, as it happens after a few days he calmed down, he is still unhappy, but the suicidal thoughts and remving himself from socail places went away

I figured as much, but, wasn't sure, the last think I said to him was I love you, and I hope it helped because what he was really feeling was being unloved.

Dog Gumbi had a great wellness visit. He didn't need his DA2PP vaccine (Parvo, Parvo influenza (Kennel cough, Canine hepatitis and distemper). These are boosters. Vet said Gumbi had long years of compliance and boosters. No longer needed at his age (12).

Had a fabulous Vet Tech and a new also gnu Vet graduate Vet from the new UAZ vet college here. She was also great.

I educated them on some therapeutic treatments and issues with an osteoarthritis drug called Librela made by Zoetis (animal health spinout from Pfizer). Some major negatives. 43% efficacy. Placebo is 30% "effective", 10% adverse events. 10s of thousands of bad stories. Its a monoclonal antibody - "anti nerve growth factor". Given local into an arthritic joint. But it has systemic flow and is up to deadly with any neurological disease (IVDD disc disease) dermatitis, and itis (inflammation) as it attacks those nerves. Also, any human accidentally getting a needle stick, must go to the ER. It's very consequential for pregnant women. Ugg. And the pharma reps have been horrific in their lack of explanation. It's sad to use customers and their doggies as guinea pigs.

Gumbi is our 5th dog. Rotty, Akita, English Mastiff. Then a Los Angeles gang bait dogo Argentina we rescued at a shelter. Then Gumbi. He was a rescue that a local group went to Georgia kill shelters to bring to Tucson, foster and then we adopted him.

He's a mix of American bulldog and...pointer.
