Interesting article, with details I did not know. It seems to me that we could use an Allthing right about now, because the assemblies and leaders we have now don't appear to be able to do a proper job.
Extra credit for correct use of people's as the plural possessive of a people, and for knowing that "e people" is not the same thing as "people."
and Now... we have the astounding unveiling of the world's largest camera on the Vera Rubin telescope in Chili.
It's a football field of tv.. the image is so huge..
This is a magnificent and breathtaking video of 1st images and..movies... see a zillion galaxies. See a thousand ish never seen asteroids moving!! See how they use time based and color sequence filtering to remove these and starting interference. See variable stars change luminosity. They will discover dozens and more supernova frequently.
A friend of mine moved back to China a good while back. Optics expert, Illumination. LED panels for spectrum controlled veggie growth in.. shipping containers ! and other places
Like most stuff, the Chinese are way out in front of this. There are vast square kilometers covered with hoop house greenhouses, growing food year round.
My daughter wasn’t injured, but two weeks ago she totaled her car. I was bummed because I bought it seven years ago. We bought it with only 46,000 miles on it being a Honda. It still had another five years left on it easily.
Friday we went and bought a replacement vehicle. She has a job interview today to become a phlebotomist. We’ll see how it goes
The death of a Honda is hard. Our son lost our 2000 Accord to a moment of inattention. Well over 200,000 miles and many more to go, but stuff happens. It didn't owe us anything.
It is already in the 80s here, and 3-digit heat indexes are expected this afternoon...it is quite muggy too...and this isn't normal for June, even in August it is rare
Cool history piece Marque...I have been to the southern mounds in OH during the Autumn equinox, it was pretty interesting
Thanks to Cynthia for the write-up. She won’t be able to check in as much for a few days, and didn’t want to be set as the author so that she doesn’t have an inbox full of Substack comment notifications whenever she checks her mail.
Anyway. Most of us are under the “heat dome” now, and here at least, that makes this feel more like late July/early August weather. I’m trying to get the outdoor work done early each day, before the sun and heat get too intense. Humid heat is much more physically exhausting than cooler weather…
Get solar air conditioning. I now live in the hot part of CA, complete with 2-3 heat domes each summer now, and we are so grateful our power bills are under $100 running the AC day and night
My house is shaed with trees, and faces east west, so it is not a good candidate for solar. My parents put up a solar collector on their house in the 1970s.
Good morning. Happy Summer Solstice! Already 82 degrees here, and sunny, with a high in the low 90s, a repeat of yesterday.
As you might guess, both the mothership and the FP covered the bombing of Iranian nuclear sites Saturday night. The FP had a hastily put together livestream discussion Saturday night, and an editorial supporting the action Sunday morning.
Very interesting, Cynthia. Fun fact: I went to Chichen Itza in 1989 and in those days you could climb “El Castillo.” It was OK going up but coming down was terrifying. I woke up today to an empty house, I’ve had family or friends here the past two weeks. I’m looking forward to a day of quiet then back home tomorrow until the 4th. I don’t really want to leave but I suppose I should spend some time with my husband. Next summer he’s going to work half time so that will be nice.
Catching up after a busy day yesterday.

Picked today to resume regular exercise. Starting with a walk; perspiring by the one mile mark. Whew!
Best wishes!

And: so glad your daughter was ok. Best of luck to her in her new job.
(Tried to post earlier but substack was being funky.)

Glad your daughter's okay, Jay. You traveled to AZ to work on that car, if I recall. Sorry for your loss.

Oops, just saw Cynthia actually wrote it..cool Cynthia...lol
Under the heat dome....I feel like I'm outta gas.
Great write-up today. I wonder if she knows much about Chaco Canyon? Looking fwd to learning how to better deal with daily insanity....

Given the heat dome is starting with the summer solstice, maybe someone is trying to pray for ripened harvest this fall.
That or Carrier secretly has been wanting to increase sales with a diabolical plot! 😎

We visited in 1983 and 85. Ms. Pinki raced up the steps !
After graduate school, a couple of classmates and I traveled through Europe for 2 months. We were at Stonehenge on the Summer Solstice.
On my bucket list
I look forward to advice on avoiding daily insanity!
Me too.
