Hi. Won't be dropping in much before Tuesday because work schedule. But I did happen to comment on one of Jonah's podcasts, "Our Ancient Faith," which is about Lincoln, and is getting raves from listeners because the guest is top-notch. Another commenter asked Jonah if he could clarify some things about Whiggishness, and I chimed in with a related question. Jonah himself replied: "๐'๐น๐น ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐น๐ผ." So that's a preview of Saturday's Ruminant, which I'm looking forward to.
Good morning. Chilly here, too, but it doesn't matter because the sun is out.
We have lots of dog tooth violets blooming in the grass, as well as some wild bluets and pigweed. The first round of azaleas is in full bloom and the second batch are starting to show color. Verbena and dianthus have been blooming for a while now.
Good morning. A chilly 21 degrees on this second full day of spring. The mothership has not yet dropped (for Cynthia, that means not yet posted on the TD site). As I will be traveling today (and on the road for the next few days) I will probably not be able to post about it.
"the idea that mainstream media is or ever was characterized by a high degree of objectivity is absurd"
Quite so. That was simply a myth that the journalistical industry ginned up to make themselves seem more reliable than they have ever been. Similar myths exist for the medical, legal, scientific, and teaching professions. And clergy.
Hmm. I'm starting to suspect that Thor slipped some of his Aggravated Cynicism into my Extra-Strength Fatalism. Makes my teeth feel kind of funny.

If you want to avoid a morel panic, simply choose not to hunt mushrooms, and refuse to those found by others.

And speaking of misinformation, there was also this fascinating article in WaPo today. (Paywall removed)

...And no sooner do I read your thoughts today, I then open the WaPo app and some face to face with this headline:
Women are getting off birth control amid misinformation explosion
P.T. Barnum was on to something...
