Asleep at the Wheel is one of my favorite groups, in large point because they have managed to keep the Western swing tradition alive and kicking for decades. Ray Benson is the band’s founder and leader. Beyond the swing style that I have a strong affinity for, Ray’s smooth easy voice and jaunty style keep me listening.
Asleep has been at it for over 50 years, and they’ve played with just about everyone who is someone in country music over that time. Benson has run the band as an incubator for many talented musicians, too.
But it’s the sound that puts the worm in my ear.
Good morning. Happy St Patrick's Day! (Officially in the Catholic Church, the feast of St Patrick is "suppressed" in favor in the Fifth Sunday of Lent). There were parades in some towns yesterday, including in the Columbus suburb of Dublin, which leans into its Irish name but otherwise has no connection with the Emerald Isle or its people.
Temperatures in the 50s, sunny but with a brisk wind.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to all. Instead of drinking green beer today I'll be contemplating the greening of the grass at my place due to the lack of winter weather and thinking about just how soon I'll probably be having to mow the dad-blamed stuff.
