Good morning. Happy Star Wars Day (May the Fourth be with you)! Today much like yesterday, in hte 50s now and predicted in the 60s this afternoon with rain off and on.
Mornin'! Drizzily, even though the big name local news channel had - briefly - an online headline warning of a chance for "dry storms" today. Wish I had screen shotted it.
Thank you, you are absolutely right. Calendar Mother's Day is actually next Sunday, though.
Today is Star Wars Day, "May the Fourth be with you!" and my late mother's birthday, would have been 87. The official Star Wars Day meal, codified long ago by Thor and Sheldon, is hot dogs and macaroni and cheese.
No, we never have. We've celebrated ANZAC Day with Anzac Biscuits - a dense, nutrient-rich cookie - and Vlad used to go through the "international days-of" calendar to find occasions for cake. Day of the Uzbek Public Transportation Worker, have at it!
Nah, I was short on time and thus overreacted to ads declaring Mother’s Day coming up. I basically assumed it was just one more thing I was running behind on…
Each year, I remind my husband that, despite all the advertising, I do not expect him to get me anything or do anything for Mother's Day, because I am not his mother.
Scroll down just a bit, and you can see the Beautiful Butterflies. Son F is on the left in the light green sweatshirt. Then scroll down to the bottom, and you can see the Ladies & Gent. Daughter D is second from right in the Quidditch pants.
I wanted to report that I did indeed survive the half marathon! That's 13.1 miles. The course is from downtown Indy to the Indy 500 track, do a lap there, and back to the starting line.
I missed my time goal by 2 minutes and 2 seconds. I'd say it was mostly due to foot pain; I was in pain coming off the speedway track again. My time was 3 hours 18 minutes and 42 seconds. It's better than a 12 minute improvement from last year's 3:30:01. My first 10k split was 14:52, but slipped by the 20k mark to 15:12. So I did speed up the last km a bit, as my overall was a 15:09 per mile pace. Better shoes helped cut the time, as did some better training. My son told me my slowest time for a mile was 15:32; last year it was 17, so I did show some improvement there.
My normal walking pace is between 3.7 and 3.8 I can get upto 4.4-4.5 on the YMCA track and hold it for a mile. My goal was 4mph (a 15 minute pace). I finished faster than the pace for 3.9 so I was close! 😀 So for next year I need to do more outdoor training (got rained out a lot this year) and also to hold the 4.4-4.5 for longer than a mile.
I probably erred in not taking in enough water, as I began crying during the last mile when i realized I couldn't speed up enough to make the 15 minute pace. I skipped the 1st 4 water breaks, took water at mile marker 5, then again getting off the Indy 500 racetrack. I cried when the announcer called out my name over the PA just before the finish line, and when they put a medal on my head.
Katie came to watch me finish; she had me on a tracker device (the entry form has a tiny tracker on it, the race track captures it). She seemed a bit concerned as I was bit dazed.
When I took off my shoes I cannot wiggle my toes without pain, especially the big toe. Maybe I need to go up one more half size on shoes?
Coming home we ate at Culvers in Greenfield, then we stopped by Walnut Ridge to lay a rose at Pam's headstone. I pulled some higher grass from about the actual headstone, although I left the higher grass where the totchkes get in the way of the mower.
I think I am now allowed to take another aleve for my feet, so I am gonna go.
Hello, all. Took a trip to Costa Rica a few years back. The journey to and within Corcovado National Park was amazing. Tapir, coati, agouti, sloths, macaw, and monkeys, monkeys and more monkeys. No feline sightings. A resting tapir was our first discovery.
Our most notable sighting was a group of peace corps volunteers who had hiked from the eastern entrance and camped in the park. Our pre-teen girls had a great talk with them.
The most unpleasant non-sighting were the ticks. Only three at my waistline, but not a welcome find upon return to our lodge. Also lots of spiders and webs for those of you interested or repulsed by such things.
Yesterday on my way from work to my eye shot doctor, I got caught in a torrential downpour with some hail, standing water there was so much water and I couldn't see a thing, so I just pulled off the road into a parking lot of a building and waited it out for several minutes, then it slowed down as I got closer to home, which I go by to get to the Dr's...it stopped and it was blue skies with some white fluffy clouds...very humid it was though.
They always dilate my eye, but this time they must have done more, because my eyes watered the whole ride home, and everything was blurry as heck...Thankfully, I made it home without an accident. I asked my BFF if she could take me next time, not going to do that again. The blurriness lasts for several hours...so does the soreness. IF you could have seen me trying to read the internet...lol
A friend of ours mother died the other day, so we made plans to go to the showing, and Monday we are judging a 4H public speaking event that she organized...
It raining today, in the upper 40's, same for tomorrow...I am in that in-between stage with clothing, it being not cold enough for sweaters and yet chilly enough that short sleeves and no jacket doesn't work...I try to keep out some next season clothes, but didn't have enough, for when it was 70s and 80s, which it was earlier in the week. Hope to switch in a couple of weeks.
This is my boring life...lol...
I don't remember if I told you guys about my mom...
They found lesions on her lungs, they can't do a biopsy or any treatment because of her frailty and age ( 86)...they don't know for sure if it is lung cancer, it is an educated guess. But the DR also said they could have been there for a long time. She is in no pain, thank goodness...and she is a tough woman, already had on kidney removed, had bladder cancer that recurred, and they removed a tumor, and other stuff...she has decided that 86 is long enough to live and doesn't want to do anything...So, I guess it is a waiting game, which I don't look forward to... Plus it is complicated for me because of our complicated relationship...not sure if she will last till her birthday in November or until Christmas, but I would prefer that.
Sorry for the long post, haven't posted here in a bit so I had a lot to day I guess...lol
Yes, it is wise to have someone drive you when you have been dilated. If the sun comes out you almost have to shut your eyes to drive.
I'm very sorry to hear of your Mom's health issue with her lungs. You are correct, it might be/(might not be) cancerous, although at 86 cancer is not an unreasonable bet. I hope you get the time with her that will help you.
I think it was the sun that was the problem, as why my eyes were watering
The reason I didn't think it would be a problem was because it wasn't last time and I asked, and they said it would clear up pretty fast this time...now I know
This morning it occurred to me that reading the news on my phone makes me less likely to comment. It seems this can cause a sort of mental constipation - consuming ideas in quick secession but only partly digesting them and stifling a response because typing longer response on a phone can be frustrating. I wonder if anyone has considered that aspect when worrying over the effects of doom scrolling.
So I intend to change my habits. We'll see how that goes.
That is an option. I do not like talking to a machine if I can help it (PLEASE let me "Press 2" instead of having to say "2"!). And I need to see what I am thinking before posting it. It takes me a ridiculous amount of time to get it right.
Good morning! We have a delightful start to the day - sunny but breezy and cooler. My husband suggested an outing to the Ham and Yam Festival - no bluegrass but other interesting things and we have never been.
We had crazy rain here last night. Driving home from my mom's I saw a lot of long, horizontal streaks of lightning but heard thunder only a time or two. I lost the driver's side windshield wiper a couple of miles from home and was very glad I had gotten off the interstate early.
Interesting critters. We used to have a Malaysian tapir at the Madison zoo but I didn’t see it last time I went. In my mind it’s pronounced tape-ear. In the future the zoo might be the only place to find certain animals.

I understand the appropriate response is "Live Long and Prosper" ;)
*snicker*
Not original, actually. Got it from FoxTrot cartoon. This link might work: https://featureassets.gocomics.com/assets/4ff4c1d0ed55013d98a1005056a9545d?optimizer=image&width=992&quality=85
That's funny.
Mornin'! Drizzily, even though the big name local news channel had - briefly - an online headline warning of a chance for "dry storms" today. Wish I had screen shotted it.
That's a new one.
Morning! Wet and 50º here.
Happy Mother’s Day to all affected. Your work deserves a lot more than just a day!
Wishing you love, respect, and admiration.
Thank you, you are absolutely right. Calendar Mother's Day is actually next Sunday, though.

Does your gang also celebrate Towel Day on May 25?
No, we never have. We've celebrated ANZAC Day with Anzac Biscuits - a dense, nutrient-rich cookie - and Vlad used to go through the "international days-of" calendar to find occasions for cake. Day of the Uzbek Public Transportation Worker, have at it!
Yes, a mother of ten deserves more than one day! Happy (early) Mother's Day, Cynthia!
> Calendar Mother's Day is actually next Sunday, <
Just learned that in person! Last time I rely on pushy advertisers without double-checking… *shakes fist at cloud*
May the fourth be with you, then, until Cinco de Mayo—but I’ll check my calendar to make sure.
Miracle Whip now costs $5 a jar? 😬 Is that from tariffs, or just a runup for the big Miracle Whip holiday tomorrow? 🤔
Glad you mentioned it. Maybe we should skip the Sinko and go with a Baño de Mayo!
So, AI is trying to change the date of Mother's Day. If this works, get ready to see even more changes.
Nah, I was short on time and thus overreacted to ads declaring Mother’s Day coming up. I basically assumed it was just one more thing I was running behind on…
I'm saying the ads are an AI conspiracy!
Each year, I remind my husband that, despite all the advertising, I do not expect him to get me anything or do anything for Mother's Day, because I am not his mother.
I'm sure your husband is a good husband and therefore will ignore you when you tell him that. 🙂
Same with Valentine's Day.

Congrats to both teams!

My doctor said you can take a lot of Aleve. The dosage on the label is just, like, guidelines.
Great work! Hope your foot pain subsides fast.
Congratulations!
Second. Same team won as last year, although I think they had one or more new people.
F does not get lifetime bragging rights over Thor and Vlad. But also, he doesn't have to work all summer.
Amazing! 🤩 Great work all around!
Two second places statewide is very impressive.
Yes. We're very proud of them.
Beautiful Butterflies are in the top 3. That means they have to do their oral presentation again for new judges, and that will decide the winner.
When is that?
All done. Butterflies were 2nd.
Ladies and Gent came in 2nd. I think that's our highest place in middle school ever.
*applause*
Well done!

Interesting. One of our Envirothon families went to Costa Rica last week and loved it.
Testing is over. Now we have waiting.
Congrats on the two 2nd place finishes, that is awesome! 😀

Much to cope with for you! Sending good thoughts your way.
Thanks Citizen
Sorry to hear about your mother. Hopefully it’s nothing to worry about.
Thanks, Marque, it may not be...both her parents lived to 94, so she has that on her side ( as do I...lol)
Not a cat. Kind of related to a horse. But it's just as well that tapir races aren't a thing.

I use voice to text to comment sometimes, but it makes for amusing typographical errors, because Siri thinks I talk funny.
I like to comment from my laptop, due to having a real keyboard. Although, who can I blame then for typos? 🤔

I was somehow expecting the final video to show the confrontation between the inexperienced zookeeper and the mother tapir, but it wasn't.
There was a news report about it, but no video of the actual event.
