World Traveler
This is a short intro for a long video—a quite fascinating one.
Noraly, a geologist from the Netherlands, decided to give up her academic pursuits to follow her real passion: traveling the world. As her new lifestyle progressed, she began to learn things, to modify her approach—something we all do in life.
She began by backpacking across southeast Asia, but eventually landed on the idea of obtaining a motorcycle for her travels, improving her flexibility over what is available from public transportation, constrained by timetables and train or bus stop locations. Then she began publishing videos she was making of her travels, which gained a following on YouTube. Soon she was attracting enthusiastic sponsors among a growing group of online followers.
I only recently came across this, thanks to the YouTube algorithm’s guesses about things I might like. As I say, it is a long video. It was the edited recap of her epic motorcycle trip from the bottom of South America to the Arctic Circle. And what an epic adventure it was! I can only commend the video, for all that it reveals, especially as she adventured through Central America, through countries that clearly have little more than a tenuous grasp of law and order over their own territory.
There have been 3.7 million views of this 90-minute adventure flick.
Noraly’s life and business model reminds me of Kevin Kelly’s advice for people to make the best use of the internet: She found a large enough fan base among the billion people online who were willing to support her work in return for the feeling of joining her on her trip. Kelly said this was a new career for life and work that the internet first made possible.
Hi, we're back from the campout. It rained.
Happy Constitution Day, to all who celebrate (which includes me).
