Weekend Open Comments
We can return to snorting the hard stuff on Monday, but the weekend should, if possible, represent a bit of a chance to catch a breath.
First, let’s accept They Might Be Giants’ invitation to meet James Ensor, Belgium’s famous painter…as written and performed by They Might Be Giants.
And here’s the strongest evidence there ever was that TMBG is originally a punk act: an MTV live performance from 1988 of “Shoehorn with Teeth” and “Don’t Let’s Start.” That was back when they (Johns Linnell and Flansburgh) wore three-foot upholstered fezzes as part of their stage show. It’s youthfully exuberant.

Good morning. My husband and I saw two bands last night. The opener was Colby T. Helms and Virginia Creeper. Here is an original song:

His voice wasn't quite as gravelly last night. Mr. Helms is only in his early 20s, and most of the band members seemed quite young. If they stay together, they could be good enough for the main stage at MerleFest in fifteen years or so.
The main performance was Della Mae. They didn't do my favorite song, "I Built This Heart," but the performance was excellent.

Placido Domingo, everyone. Thor came over last night, and I did his laundry while he trounced several of us at Wingspan. He says he may soon have a new job with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Stormwater. I hope it works out as he expects. For all his ability to be a pain in the tuchus, he's always been an excellent employee wherever he works.
