HA HA HA..I remember that...he dos that so well,( so straight faced) including in the Related Movies ( Naked Gun?) , I am a huge fan of Zucker Brother movies ( Own most of them) ( also Top Secret with Val Kilmer, is one of my all time favorite movies) Airplane etc), similar to my love of Mel Brooks movies. I Love that kind of humor and I certainly do get it...lol

Good way to start a Monday...things should calm down for me now, got all the tax stuff done and just waiting to get the form so I can do my one 1099. thanks goodness ( Landlord).

Also I filed my federal and state taxes yesterday. I normally do it at the last minute, but, money is tight and I am getting a little bit back , and my return is real simple since I don't itemize anymore, so why not? They used to say 10 days for the money, now it is 21...lol...I will wait for the city because I am going to owe them money again because of my belated discovery that the person who worked here before me didn't change the tax rate for my city...I found out last tax time, and changed it then

We had several inches of snow overnight and boy is it beautiful out there with all the snow on the trees and bushes etc..lovely drive in to work

Ok, MarqueG68, now you've got me on a Police Squad kick. This clip, from the same episode, is a very funny take on the old "Who's on first?" routine.

Lead line from the main story on the other site: "In journalism, if something happens once, it’s an anomaly. Twice, a coincidence. Three times, and it’s a trend."

My comment there: This doesn't say much for journalism, but it does explain a lot of careless writing posing as journalism.

Alas, they don't make 'em like that anymore, meaning they don't write funny stuff that isn't at someone's expense, rather just simply funny. As for the condescending executives, I grew up believing in everyone's intrinsic worth being the same. Some might be taller, faster, smarter, funnier but we are all worth the same and no about of intellect makes any of us right all the time. So, I have no patience for executives (or anyone) who hold themselves to be superior and to be able to judge what is best for society. I'm not at all sure why their opinions would matter more than toll collectors (who have lost their jobs to automation). In the same sense, I never believed in celebrity and least of all in celebrity endorsements. Robert Young, even dressed like a TV doctor, was no expert on coffee so why should I take his word for it? Sorry, that was long-winded.

Hopefully Monday Mirth will be on ongoing tradition! (I don't expect weekly but maybe biweekly?)

Also, congrats to the Mayor of Marqueville for scooping not just the Mothership but the Grandmothership.

For, there was a recent NR article about a Chinese police station being found in New York.

I would link it, but it's paywalled, which is yet another reason Marque's story on Chinese police stations is superior.

I never saw that show, but that led to the "Naked Gun" movie franchise.

Oh, lord. I'd forgotten that show! Nielson was such a brilliant comic actor. This very much had the "Airplane!" sensibility. "The Hospital? What is it?" "Well, its a big building with sick people in it. But that's not important now."

Today’s special animal friend is the Straw-headed Bulbul, Pycnonotus zeylanicus. This Critically Endangered songbird is native to Malaysia, Singapore, and Borneo. They are about 11 inches high. Their coloring is brown and white with yellow highlights for the head, flight feathers, and tail.

The straw-headed bulbul’s native habitat is lowland broadleaf forests, mangrove forests, or shrubland. They have adapted to agricultural land, tree plantations, and domestic gardens. Fruit and berries are their favorite foods, especially figs. They also eat spiders, insects, aquatic snails, and small vertebrates such as lizards. Like other bulbuls, they are highly-regarded singers:

I’m kind of underwhelmed, actually. He’s certainly not Tom the Mocker or even Bill the Cardinal, but oh, well. They make a cup nest of plant fibers, usually in the fork of a tree. Two eggs are typical, and with both parents and sometimes helpers – perhaps other related adults – caring for the young, both chicks sometimes reach adulthood.

As I said above, the straw-headed bulbul is Critically Endangered. Habitat loss is a factor, but the species is pretty resilient and is happy to eat bugs in your yard if an undisturbed mangrove-fig forest isn’t available. The key factor is collection for the pet trade. They are a very popular caged bird in Asia, especially in Indonesia. Having nothing better to compare it to, the people think the bulbuls’ song is really impressive, and they even hold bird-singing competitions. They’re so kooky about this in Indonesia that an attempt by the government to ban collection of the straw-headed bulbul was quashed by a massive public backlash.

However, released former pet birds have naturalized in Singapore and are doing very well there. In addition to neighborhood parks, the wild landscapes of military bases are an excellent habitat for the straw-headed bulbul:

It was covered in the WSJ this weekend (paywall, sorry):

There are some hundreds of bulbuls in Singapore, and they have a well-organized group protecting their nest sites and promoting appreciation.
