TMD: Ready to pounce.
MG: Falling down
On Christmas Day in 1971, Juliane Koepcke fell out of an airplane some 3000 meters above the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. A teenager at the time, she miraculously survived the fall while strapped into her seat, and managed to apply her rainforest knowledge to finding her way back to human civilization eleven days later.
Here’s the story from the Australian public broadcaster, ABC:
On the floor of the jungle, Juliane assessed her injuries.
Woozy and confused, she assumed she had a concussion. Her collar bone was also broken and she had gashes to her shoulder and calf.
"I lay there, almost like an embryo for the rest of the day and a whole night, until the next morning," she wrote.
[…]
She could identify the croaks of frogs and the bird calls around her.
"I recognised the sounds of wildlife from Panguana and realised I was in the same jungle," Juliane recalled.
She was not far from home. But one wrong turn and she would walk deeper and deeper into the world's biggest rainforest.
"There was almost nothing my parents hadn't taught me about the jungle. I only had to find this knowledge in my concussion-fogged head."
Juliane finally pried herself from her plane seat and stumbled blindly forward.
She was the lone survivor of ninety-some passengers and crew.
Before you let this put you off flying, the particular airplane model was notorious for its poor design and build quality. And the specific plane in question is thought to have been assembled from salvaged parts. Finally—as if that weren’t enough—the airline made the decision to try flying the machine directly into a storm.
Is there a lesson here? Perhaps that life itself is an astounding spectacle? (Yes, it’s a question.)
My vacuum is finally repaired, the one that's been in the shop since August. I almost cried when I read the text. Son B (and a helper of his choice) will go get it tomorrow morning.
Sigh, I have managed for 8 years to not get into a political argument of one of my friends from HS...I lost it yesterday going in today...I just kept ignoring the Tucker Carlson and Dan Bongino videos, ( lots of stuff from You Tube...sigh), and the lies or exaggerations she has been told she keeps repeating, I don't even want to get into an argument about how all liberals are not liars or evil, just like all journalists , even left leaning ones aren't either, and all fact checkers are not lying either...sigh... I just want to show her the people she is trusting are not trustworthy and they are not doing anything that helps you, just grifting for money and power...
Now it is Tony Bobulinski...sigh...and Biden committed treason, and how did he win when he never left his basement...arghh..but, Trump never did anything wrong, ever, or his family
Anyway, I tried and then said, there is no point, let's just , like before, not talk politics ...it would be a massive amount of work for me to find acceptable sources proving my points and I don't have the time and energy and I doubt it would change a thing
She wants me to prove to her that these people aren't being honest with her...there is no way to do that, she will think any source I use ( and I can't use the paywalled ones like The Dispatch anyway) is lying/illegitimate
