The alarm bells regarding Russia continue to sound, but our political system appears to pay little heed. The countries closest to Russia are the ones we should be paying attention to:
[Estonia], which borders Russia, has seen a rise in sabotage, electronic warfare and spying — all blamed on Moscow.
As the war in Ukraine turns in Russia’s favor, defenses are being bolstered in the front-line nations of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as in Finland and Poland.
[Estonian Prime Minister Kaja] Kallas says Russia is conducting a “shadow war” against the West.
There’s a bit more detail in the article, but the main takeaway to me seems to be that we aren’t taking the urgent situation seriously enough.
The sitting president and his administration don’t seem to be doing enough. The presidential alternatives in this election appear even worse. Trump would probably have us withdraw from NATO while selling out Ukraine to Vladimir Putin in exchange for Putin’s flattery. Even if he could win, Robert Kennedy hardly offers anything resembling a firmer defense against Russian aggression and subterfuge.
Our leading politicians appear to be working harder on national self-destruction, thereby reflecting the political spirit of our times.

Good morning. Happy Trash Day!
Good morning. My, what’s an upbeat article!
‘Meanwhile, at the new, improved mothership, we are treated to a report on the situation in Haiti after the deaths of 2 American missionaries. If you look up the dictionary definition of “failed state” that would be Haiti, where it’s so bad, peacekeeping forces are afraid to arrive to, well, keep the peace.
