Happy Independence Day!
We shall return to griping about America’s biggest enemies again tomorrow, but today merits a break from all that.
One thought, though, that is firmly in my own mind as I review the doings of the erstwhile Axis of Evil: What practical efforts can we make to combat the malign attempts of our enemies to propagandize us, to turn us against ourselves, to sow hatred and animosity against our fellow citizens with whom we disagree politically?
There is a tendency in politics to believe that anything goes—the main thing is to win the office. In the process, we often appear to have abandoned any and all decency. We’ve let the loudest, angriest, and most aggressive set the tone.
It would be good if we’d stop that, if for no other reason that it’s self-destructive. Who wants to live in a place that is regularly rendered unlivable by no-holds-barred, give-em-all-ya-got political warfare? Hmm? Who?

It's going to be hot today. Rain is supposed to start on Saturday, just as the staff arrives at camp, and the forecast after that is the usual "p.m. showers likely". At least I'll be coming home at night.
Jake, the brown cat, isn't feeling well. He doesn't want to eat his gooshy cat food. I'm cooking a piece of fish for him. We have a lot of fish, because the Knights of Columbus had to get it out of the church freezer.
Good morning!
