Ahhh, day 4 of summer basketball camp is in the books! And no torn ACLs, although there is a counselor/coach game tomorrow. I plan to sit out, other than for one possession. If I break/tear anything based on one trip down the court, it's a sign from our heavenly father!
Yesterday we had the big rainstorm, so we moved 100 kids into a single gymnasium. 100 kids yelling, it was LOUD! Counselors are laughing because I slipped up and called one teen "Erkel", but only because of his annoying voice. Other counselors are calling him that now.
My only frustration are two younger coaches who don't pay attention, and are not ready to cooperate when cooperation is necessary. They're not helping on the skills stations, they're just standing around. I called for all six coaches of our age group to meet, and the two blew it off, so we paired off the other four teams, and let them figure out what to do on their own. For skills, my youngest is taking charge more; he and a female counselor chat before kids arrive and plan some drills. He's enjoying it.
Tomorrow we drive to Indy, to Gainbridge fieldhouse, where the Indiana pacers and fever play. They say the game is sold out, so it'll be packed. The Pacers aren't working with us this year, since they don't need our support. Last year (and the previous ten years) they let us use the lounge, providing us a hot dog, bag of chips and pepsi as a supper. This year, we're on our own. Eventually Caitlin Clark mania will fade; I hope they have a backup plan.
I'm glad it's all going reasonably well. I had planned to go to the library this afternoon, but I it turns out - I learned from NextDoor - that there was an accident on the U.S. Highway that snarled traffic for several miles in every direction, so I probably couldn't have gotten there. Maybe I'll give it a try later: they're open until 8:00.
The bathroom project is ongoing, but I hear it may be done pretty soon. Jake is not happy about it.
And in further news, I filed Form 1023-EZ for recognition as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which means - when it's approved - anyone with money burning a hole in their pocket can make tax-deductible contributions, and I can take a deduction for the filing fees.
Son E helped me sign up for an account with the IRS. It involved an "authentication app," which he did on my phone like a good boy who wants meals in the future.
Also on the mothership, yesterday, I, um, reminded that PJ fellow that his gratuitous disparagement of others' religious beliefs makes me disinclined to pay attention to what else he has to say. He pretended not to understand me, but I wasn't having any of that.
Good morning. Off to work at the store later. Over on the mothership--or was that the G-File, I can't remember, whatever, it'd take me too long to track it down thanks to Disqus--I had about enough of J-C J's attitude, and ended up suggesting he take a long walk off a short pier. I don't much care how he reacts to that.
He’s one I would block if I were active there. He does what used to be known as trolling, and the arguments are never in good faith.
Does he still do that thing where he argues a term’s original “meaning” in order to launch into personal insults? That was troll behavior: bait another user into escalating insults. So is the tactic of arguing so you’re chasing your own tail. That’s just arguing for the sake of arguing, them main aim of which is never to back down.
People like that are tiresome—and I’ve decided for me a complete waste of my time.
He sure got real mad at me yesterday. That tells me I was not wrong.
UPDATE: After his initial reaction to my suggestion, I replied "What? I just wanted you to enjoy a nice day at the seashore." Then he told some tiresome anecdote about someone objecting to someone calling someone a fat pig (I didn't get the point or how that related to me) and accused me of wishing him to drown. I replied this morning: "Did I say I thought you couldn't swim?"
I can play games too.
He did reply separately to something I wrote about [edit] the meaning of the term Substack. His answer was pertinent and straightforward. Still, I'm just going to ignore him for a while, to send a signal consistent with what I said about PJ.
Well, since his superiority to other commenters is simply an objective fact, the only real problem is our failure to accept that fact. So it is entirely correct for him to just keep insisting until we capitulate.
Good morning. Day 4 here of no power thanks to Beryl. It was 98 yesterday and my sense of humor seems to have deserted me. The forecast is for cooling temps in early October.
Well not completely. This week’s southern word of the day: Namaste. As in “Y’all gonna evacuate for the hurricane?” “Namaste here.” You can laugh or cry. I try to laugh whenever possible.
My sympathies. The only thing close in my world was the seven-day outage when we had the WV derecho. That kicked off a week of record high temps, which around here means low-90s. Meanwhile, 60 miles to the north-west, Charleston and the Kanawha Valley had highs in the low-100s.
Good morning. Sunny with predicted high in the 80s, but it’s supposed to get hotter tomorrow.
I don’t know how happy the French are about their National Assembly election, since a far leftist party won the most seats (although not a majority). The coalition that develops, and out of which the Prime MinIster and Cabinet will be chosen, will be politically different from French President Emmanuel Macron — a situation the French call “cohabitation”.
The video was a nice little tune, sung by a lovely young lady with a sweet voice.
Meanwhile, the mothership is reporting on the "vibes shift" among Democrats, who are getting visibly more nervous about Biden staying in the race. The tell is that there are calls for Biden to "decide" when in fact, he has already said he is staying in the race.
Good morning. There's like bird and stuff here, too. And Jake took his pill without trauma. And the laundry is almost done for F to go back to camp at noon. We're getting a new shower in the upstairs hall bathroom - used by Youths - today. It's costing a lot. I have no idea if it's costing more or less than it should, because my husband did not get more than one estimate, as I would have done.
Morning. The cheapest, simplest job is still going to be in the realm of five grand. An upgrade to a basic bathroom including a new prefab retrofit shower stall is probably easily in the neighborhood of fifteen grand. The sky’s the limit when it comes to upscale improvements like a gold-plated bidet and fur sink, etc.
Is it replacing a single-unit acrylic/fiberglass tub/shower surround? Replacing that with a prefab unit isn’t necessarily expensive. But prices rise quickly on those if you go above basic “contractor grade”. If you have tile and masonry done, it gets a lot more labor intensive. And if you have to have a plumbing contractor do the whole job, prices can soon reach nosebleed levels.
But 15 grand is what I would WAG for a mid-range smallish bath update.
ETA: Should have said 5 to 15 is within the normal price range, with 5 being pretty bare bones minimum, no surprises on removing the old work, such as wood rot from a long-term hidden leak.
"Is it replacing a single-unit acrylic/fiberglass tub/shower surround?"
Yes, but we're replacing it with something slightly better. The new unit will be just a shower, which would annoy me if I were a buyer: where are you supposed to wash your kids? But, like, whatever. I guess people don't have kids any more.
Kitchens and baths are total money pits when it comes to renovating and remodeling.
When it comes to value, I don’t think you can beat the tub-shower single units, but they’re really only an option for new construction. They’re too big to fit through a standard bathroom door. And they are exceedingly dull and boring, but in my view, the benefit is that they don’t really start looking dated within a few years, so long as you pick plain and white.
Retrofit bath and/or shower kits for the same space (usually 30 x 60 inch) have to come in four pieces: bath or shower pan and three walls. Most manufacturers have figured out reliable leak-free designs without requiring caulking.
Tub and shower glass doors get pricy fast, too, as I’m sure you’ve found.

And what is the purpose of your non-profit?
Environmental education and outdoor activity, including games, hiking, and camping.
I have one of those apps with an ever-growing list of websites that use it -- most of them are work-related but one of them is good old login.gov
This one for the IRS was Pay.gov, which is apropos if not symbolic.
That was a good song, and so were the others that followed on my YouTube feed.

M Jouffrey is best not taken too seriously (of course, he takes himself *very* seriously).
Well, since his superiority to other commenters is simply an objective fact, the only real problem is our failure to accept that fact. So it is entirely correct for him to just keep insisting until we capitulate.
He certainly took my suggestion very seriously.

🤣
Good on ya!
Good morning. Day 4 here of no power thanks to Beryl. It was 98 yesterday and my sense of humor seems to have deserted me. The forecast is for cooling temps in early October.
Ugh. Post hurricane BS is deadly to humor.
Hang in there!
Well not completely. This week’s southern word of the day: Namaste. As in “Y’all gonna evacuate for the hurricane?” “Namaste here.” You can laugh or cry. I try to laugh whenever possible.
That's funny!
Sorry about your sense of humor. It was 98 here yesterday, too, but I at least had air conditioning when I got in the car after camp.
My sympathies. The only thing close in my world was the seven-day outage when we had the WV derecho. That kicked off a week of record high temps, which around here means low-90s. Meanwhile, 60 miles to the north-west, Charleston and the Kanawha Valley had highs in the low-100s.

“Okay, I’m staying in!”
“Decide again!”

I bet several people reading this, actually know what a “bidet” is, but I doubt they have one — gold-plated or otherwise — in their bathroom.
We're just after the shower right now, and yes, it's in the neighborhood of $15,000.

I understand it's supposed to have a curtain, and yet not leak.
