The AI threat is getting real. There are reports that it is starting to impersonate really important people! Run for your lives!
Well, the examples in the Politico story (thanks to Josh for the pointer!) are not celebrity level important, but still. Important psychologists play a major role in the story. The reporter laments the fact that our politicians aren’t out front fixing the issue… which doesn’t seem to be bothering too many people.
With AI-generated digital replicas poised to enter the mainstream market from Hollywood to Chinese app stores, U.S. policymakers are running out of time to determine the rules surrounding their use. Since that first phone call with Zhao, Seligman says, other AI companies have reached out to him about licensing his library of work to them. “I told them, no, I’m not willing to do it because I don’t know you. I don’t trust you,” he said. Zhao is the exception, Seligman told POLITICO, because of their long friendship.
Not sure if I’m more nervous about the prospect of AI stealing famous people’s personalities or Congress acting to install some sort of federal quality control over the whole enchilada.
The rest of the story is here, sub-titled “New AI-generated digital replicas of real experts expose an unnerving policy gray zone. Washington wants to fix it, but it’s not clear how.” I’m trying to suppress feeling unnerved. Maybe someone should ask ChatGPT what to do next.
My youngest went to shadow a PA today as part of his college training. He got up early, got cleaned up nicely, let with plenty of time to get there and...
As he pulled into the parking lot, the PA texted him that the building was being evacuated due to a bedbug infestation.
I did talk to him that perhaps if he had done more outreach sooner, he'd have actually shadowed the PA earlier in break, not later. I don't know if he agrees or not...
I knew my subscription for The Dispatch was renewing sometime in January so I just went to check. Today was the renew date. I cancelled, it was bittersweet but I rarely read TMD anymore. Too much to read, too little time.
