Looking for some short piece on electric vehicles (EVs) and their performance in cold weather, I came across this short piece by Consumer Reports. That magazine tries hard to be fair by trying to be objective in its testing. For instance, they buy products anonymously rather than accepting manufacturer test models. Then they put them through the same paces for multiple tests in order to generate sufficient data. They make an effort to tease real data out of their test items.
In this video, they compared the performance of EVs and internal combustion engines (ICEs) in different weather conditions. They also compared the relative strengths and weaknesses of each. My view is that CR works hard to be objective, even though I also think they are biased in favor of environmental claims and the tastes of wealthy up-scale consumers. But at the same time, it’s hard to say where their bias ends and mine begins.
And, just for fun, here’s a parody video ad for EVs that should manage to offend everyone on some level (NSFW, probably):
Good morning. It is overcast but I have the window open and it hasn't triggered the heat pump. The tulip poplars are blooming. It's February.

Dr. Jill Biden says, "Who you gonna believe: a doctor, or your own lyin' eyes?"
"Joe is 81, that's true, but he's 81 doing more in an hour than most people do in a day."
Maybe instead of a long weekend at the shore, President Biden could come to my house and do a day of housekeeping, bro-wrangling, Spanish music directing, Jake-serving, science teaching, husband-nurturing, and Walmart shopping. And write TSAF. The day starts at 5:20 a.m. and wraps up around 10:00 p.m., but sometimes there's a lie-down with Jake in the afternoon, so that we can drive safely to night meetings.
Doctor Jill sounds like the most loopy of Trump True Believers. "Take her seriously, not literally," right?
JUST STOP LYING, EVERYONE.
