I just posted this over on the mothership (attached to someone else's comment to which it was relevant enough for the purpose) and thought I'd share it with you all, in part because it took me some work to accurately summarize, which I gladly did for the sake of truth and justice, even though I delayed my afternoon errands so I may return home in the dark. You're welcome.
*******
I'm watching Liz on today's CBS morning program, because my TiVo caught it.
Some of the things she's saying:
1) The people whose minds she expects to change are independent voters and moderate Repubs and Dems. But she has heard from a few hardcore or Trump-leaning people who were converted after coming to an understanding of his attitude toward the law, and when she points out that he sat and "relished" the violence, which action/inaction she (rightly) calls "depraved."
2) "The sad thing" about Kevin is that "at any moment he could have done the right thing." And that when he didn't it was because he subordinated everything else to his goal of becoming speaker of the house. (A key idea for me. It's not wrong per se to pursue your ambition, but you have to have priorities and principles above that.)
3) She has regrets about having ever supported Trump, but no regrets about any actions she has taken to hold him accountable.
4) When Vivek said it was an "inside job" he was right, but not in the way he meant--it was done from within the government, by a sitting president with the help of members of the House of Representatives.
5) She will be appearing on Fox News within the next several days.
6) Re a third-party run for her, she "won't do anything that would help" Trump. "Whatever it takes" means "looking at our politics in a very different way" and that "hopefully he won't win the nomination," but if he does, then "all of us have to come together across party lines to defeat him." She goes on to say "there are a full range of things we need to do to think anew about non-partisanship, about voting for the Constitution and not whatever political party people may be part of, it matters that much."
7) She will be supporting "pro-Constitution candidates, no matter their party" against election deniers and the like.
My co-author called for our weekly call; he is feeling under the weather, so we rung off after 2 minutes. I have 88 minutes of free time. I may try to get caught up on some emails. 32 names on the revised list to complete, then add the 2nd/3rd marriages.
BTW, I met the original black widow! Millie Greer Carter Cain Sales Parker. Widowed four times, but I don't know if they ate the mushrooms or if there is a more reasonable explanation.
