Food for thought: What did our ancestors eat? Well, probably not thoughts! *snarf, chuckle, snort*
Ahem. Joking aside, here’s an argument pointing to archeological evidence that our ancestors were probably carnivores, and probably concentrated on scavenging, in particular for bone marrow from prehistoric roadkill. Yale anthro Prof. Jessica Thompson presents the case.
I had not previously been aware that the spread of Homo sapiens coincided with the decline of very large apex predator populations. Thus, our people outsmarted them, since we didn’t have strong, sharp claws and teeth—unlike those other guys.
Anyway, something to justify your urge to snack on a steak right about now.

Good morning. I'm reading a book about horses, and it starts by explaining the humans hunted and ate lots of early equids. Then they started corralling and herding them to get mares' milk, and the next thing you know, literally a million mounted Mongols are swamping civilization as we (they) knew it up to that point.
I was actually going to have a banana for breakfast, though.
Good morning. Another September morning in August.
The mothership, besides covering a long evening at the Chicago shindig, where a former high-school coach spoke, has a story about homeless encampments in cities out West, and efforts to remove them.
Meanwhile, the Front Page asks, “When will Kamala Harris talk to the press?”
Personal note: I’ll be traveling tomorrow and will be on the Gulf Coast next week, where the weather is definitely August.
