Kevin Williamson at The Dispatch had a good time pointing at MAGA Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene the other day. He began with the report that a Dem Congressman from across the aisle had proposed her office be named for Neville Chamberlain, the British Prime Minister who became notorious as the 20th Century’s greatest appeaser for trying to negotiate peace with Adolf Hitler prior to Hitler’s invasion of Poland.
The piece was a good example of political fun: Poking fun at a contemporary politician striving for public attention by acting the fool, wrapped up in a brief history lesson full of colorful detail not otherwise widely known.
Neville Chamberlain was an honorable and decent man, a patriot and a statesman who led the United Kingdom during the first months of World War II before serving honorably in Winston Churchill’s war cabinet for the few months he had left to live before dying of cancer.
He also repeats this line as the refrain throughout:
Marjorie Taylor Greene is no Neville Chamberlain.
I believe the article has been taken from behind the paywall.
Gonna help mty daughter write a paper. It should be interesting. I checked email. I had an author who I rejected their submission. They want to know why, beyond the fact that the submission was a good 5,000 words longer than our guidelines. I have a feeling this is going to be a time suck...
I liked the article about Neville Chamberlain. I believe he erred with Hitler, but he was a good and honest man. I thought it was worth reading.
