Drained Buses
Battery school buses are apparently something our federal authorities want us to enjoy, no expense spared, whether or not they function. Thus reported the Washington Free Beacon a week ago.
Michigan's fourth-largest school district is having "significant" performance issues with its expensive electric buses, issues that come after the Biden administration spent $1 billion to "transform America's school bus fleet" with electric models.
The report goes into the gory financial details. City, state, and federal levels of government are eagerly ploughing public funds into the effort. The rechargeable school buses break down a lot. They require expensive charging stations to be built and maintained. But they presumably make a great political statement to voters and taxpayers worried about the environment, taught to believe the best intentions supersede any practical limitations.
The report comes from a news outlet that focuses its attention at political failings of the left, admittedly. Still, it is apparent that conventional news outlets are wholly incurious when it comes to such oversight. If they would at least occasionally follow up on public programs to see if they live up to their promise, traditional journalism might enjoy broader credibility.
But it is left to a small right-wing publication to take a close enough look to find and report this tidbit:
The Biden administration has faced intense criticism from congressional Republicans over its ties to electric bus maker Proterra. Administration officials repeatedly showcased the company while Biden's energy secretary, Jennifer Granholm, held up to $5 million in Proterra stock. Granholm eventually sold her 240,000 Proterra shares in May 2021, with the former Michigan governor earning a cool $1.6 million. Just months after Granholm's stock sale, Proterra officials discussed their plans to capitalize on government electric bus spending.
Huh.
Kevin Williamson's new piece on his visit to Ukraine is getting raves; it's been opened up for sharing. A pro-Putin troll has made multiple repetitive posts attempting to propagandize, but most are not engaging with him. He's like a broken record.
I'm thinking P. J. O'Rourke would be proud of Kevin's work.
